What’s the most powerful lesson in business that you have learned?

When you look back on your life, you will most regret failing to act. The stars are never going to align and there will always be a reason not to do a thing. It’s best to simply do what you have to do.

Have any of your business ventures ever failed? What went wrong?

Yes I failed on a number of occasions. I’ve been involved in quite a few businesses such as nightclubs, a catalogue business and a real estate development company. I compete in business and I hate loosing money. But you continue to live and learn.

As an entrepreneur have you found any habits difficult to break?

As an entrepreneur and a creative person it’s hard to focus on one idea. Mine would have to be concentrating on one thing and doing it right and getting it done before moving on to the next thing.

What is the most powerful or influential book that you have ever read?

Ready, Fire, Aim by Michael Masterson and Start With Why by Simon Sinek.

What was the first job that you did that developed or instigated your entrepreneurial spirit?

I will say it’s inborn. I was blessed with the entrepreneurial blood. I have done various jobs from waiting tables, stacking shelves to pumping gas. From an early age, I was keen to make a dollar out of 15 cents.

What is the biggest goal you have set for yourself recently and achieved?

I don’t set goals because I am more of a standards person. For me, it is to continue to wake up and do what I enjoy, living within my purpose, which is to help people discover theirs, and spending time with my family.

If you could invite any 3 people to dinner, who would they be and why?

Lenny Kravitz: He is my man and if I were gay, he would be my first choice. At dinner, we would talk about his music and basically jam.
Dr. Martin Luther King: I would like to ask him what gave him the strength to do what he did and how he knew it was the right thing to do.
My grandfather: It would be nice to have him back because he was my soul and my life. Everything I have and have become I owe to him.

From your recent contribution to the book Lessons learned from the Recession, what is your advice to aspiring business leaders?

This is a moment of opportunity we will never see again. In this difficult time there is opportunity that presents itself but you have to be fired up and positioned for it. Take advantage of what of the benefits the recession offer such as cheaper labour and cheaper products and cheaper materials.

Do you have any favourite motivational quotes that you can share?

Dr Wayne Dyer said “everything that happens in life will take us to a place of higher value.” John Lennon also said “life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.” Tony Robins said, “Success leaves clues.”

What is your most audacious prediction for the next 12-18 months?

There will be a continual descent of the US economy; more money will be made in the downturn than ever before, there will be the creation of powerful products that answers the need of people.

As Apple icon Steve Jobs just passed away, what key qualities do you think that an entrepreneur needs to have, in order to realise their potential?

Steve is an icon and is definitely up there with Disney, Ford etc. Looking at him I would say you need grit, determination, hope and vision.
